Hi everyone, my name is Dawn and I have just been diagnosed with RSD. I will say I have never heard of this disease until now. I work in a hospital and one of my patient's had got the best of me Aug.8,2005. He fractured my wrist, tore nevere's, tendon's and ligament's in my thumb. About one and half month's later the hand surgen told me the fx has heald. I complained for weeks that the pain and burning I was feeling was so excrutaiting I couldn't take it any more. I'm already in the third stage of RSD, and I keep telling my dr that the medication he has me on is not working. I've tried the tens unit it's not helping either. My theropist is tring to help me the best she can, but theropy is not helping either is very painful, but again no one is listening to me. I try to explain to people the disease and they all tell me it's all in my head, and not to think about it. I've even went to my dr for something for depression and he said give it time, and the pain med's will take some of the pain away. It's been all most three month's and the pain seem's to be getting worse. I have had thought's I shouldn't have I think about I shouldn't think about. But once again NO ONE is listening to me. I just want the pain to go away. The dr I see has never treated anyone for RSD and my theropist has never taken care of a patient with RSD. Neither one could give me any information on RSD I had to do the research on my own. I dont's want my family or friend's to feel sorry or have pitty for me I just ant them to understand. My life has changed alot now. I don't go out with my fience and our friend's like I use to, because of the pain and the air when it hit's my hand. I'm afraid someone might bump me. I'm alway's depressed and don't want to be bothered. My kid's try to understand, but their still young and want me bike ride with them and jump on the trampoline. It's almost time for trick or treat in our neighbor hood and they want to go, I will suck up the pain for them that night I will not deprive them of that. I am going to seek a second opinion, and find a dr that specializes in RSD. I have to be careful, because this is a work related injury and I have to go through the proper guide lines and have certin thing's approved through worker's comp. Ladies and Gentalmen thank you for letting me be apart of the group, and letting me tell you about my storey. God Bless Everyone and good luck to everyone. Dawn from Ohio

Dawn, welcome to the group and so sorry you are going through all the pain and
changes.. you have come to the right place for information and support - this
group is great. At least here, we can all understand the torment you
are going
through and try and help with support and information when we can. I just
wanted to let you know and say hello myself.

Dawn: Welcome to the group. I'm sure you will find it very useful for
information, frienship and a place to vent when needed. We all have the same
problems and no subject is taboo here except the language out of respect for
the Pastor.

I have had RSD since a bad surgury on my thumb in January, I was dx in April
with the RSD and I have been making the rounds of pain pills ,pain patches,
4 SGB's (block's) PT and now he wants to to do a trial SCS. I'm not too
sure about that yet. I have no use in my right hand except my fingertips and
it has spread to my right shoulder.

Welcome aboard,

Trudy

Hi Dawn,
Thank you for sharing your story with us. You have certainly been through alot! I think it is a very good idea to seek a second opinion with someone experienced with RSD. Take a look on the our docs board there might be something posted to help you. I don't know what the therapist is doing, but don't under any ciscumstance let them ice any part of your body. This can make the RSD spread. I know Workers Comp can be rough to deal with but keep on pushing because you need a doctor who understands what you have and how to treat it. It can be very frustrating to say the least but we are all here for you whenever you need us. It is a hard road but together it becomes a little easier to bear. It is great to have you here with us and welcome!
Love,
Robyn
